Ankeny Auto Body 1 is Leading for Change
With our in house chemical recycling facilities and state of the art chemical reduction systems, we are able to reduce the use of hazardous materials in our painting process. As well, any hazardous material we do use is recycled and reused a second time before we safely haul it to a hazardous waste disposal site. Our commitment goes well beyond reducing our waste. At Ankeny Autobody1 we go one step further in our goal to be your environmentally friendly autobody collision repair facility. Not only do we reduce and reuse all hazardous waste, we make sure that all volatile organic chemicals are sprayed with HVLP – High Volume, Low Pressure Spray Guns. These state of the art spray guns not only allow a safer working environment for our personnel, they also greatly reduce VOC emissions.
There are many advantages to using waterborne coatings:
- Solvent-based coatings contain VOC’s and Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP) such as xylene, toluene, methyl ethyl ketone and ethyl benzene.
- Besides their lower VOC and toxicity levels, waterborne coatings are less flammable. Not only does their use reduce air emissions and improve worker health, they’re safer – factors that could decrease shop insurance costs.
- Waterborne products can provide lower costs. They require no additives or hardeners. In addition, less product may be needed to cover the same surface area.
- Paint guns used for waterborne products can be cleaned with water or water-based solutions rather than more expensive paint thinner, acetone or methyl acetate.
